Why we don't include warranty by default

Here's the honest truth: once a plant leaves our Waconia nursery, a lot is out of our control.

• People buy plants and forget to water them — the #1 cause of new-plant death
• Rabbits girdle bark, voles chew roots, deer browse
• Late-spring frost, summer storms, and brutal winter winds happen
• A shade-loving plant gets installed in full sun, or vice versa

Most national nurseries bake a hidden warranty fee into every plant's price, whether you want it or not. We'd rather give you a fair price and let you decide if you want the protection.

How the warranty works

1. Choose your coverage length (90-day or 1-year) and the tier that matches your order total on the Plant Survival Warranty page
2. Add it to your cart at checkout
3. If a covered plant doesn't return from its first dormancy (the spring after delivery), reach out by April 30th of that spring
4. Send us a photo of the plant in place
5. We'll deliver a one-for-one replacement at no additional charge

Coverage & pricing

Pricing is based on your order total and how long you want coverage. 90-day coverage starts at $4.40 and 1-year coverage starts at $8.80. At checkout, pick the tier that matches your order subtotal.

What's covered

• Failure to leaf out the spring following delivery
• Cold injury or late-spring frost damage that kills the plant
• Hardiness-zone failure (we never knowingly sell out-of-zone, but if it happens, you're covered)

What's NOT covered (even with warranty)

• Failure to water — the #1 cause of new-plant death. New plants need 5 gallons per week for two summers
• Animal damage — deer browse, rabbit girdling, vole chewing, dog digging
• Planting outside the plant's needs — shade plant in full sun, dry plant in wet clay, etc.
• Storm damage — hail, flooding, ice, severe wind
• Plants moved, transplanted, or pruned by another company after we delivered

Who should buy the warranty

It's a smart hedge for:

• First-year Minnesota gardeners still learning what their yard needs
• Anyone installing trees over $100 each
• Homes near heavy deer corridors (Wayzata, Stillwater, parts of Edina)
• Customers traveling during peak watering season

If you're an experienced gardener with a fenced yard who waters religiously, you probably don't need to add it.
